[edit] Removal of {{persondata}} from Marie Curie
Please do not remove the {{persondata}} template from articles, as you did with Marie Curie. The metadata in the template will help to facilitate advanced search capabilities, statistical analysis, and automated categorization of our biographies. The template is not visible to most users and does not affect the appearance of the article. For more information on persondata, see Wikipedia:Persondata. Hqb 10:29, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

I think the competition for this season has ended, so I am afraid registration is closed. However, I think you can wait for the next competition, but I am still unsure of how to register for that one...Sorry!
You might, however, want to ask GreaterWikiholic for more information, as he started the competition. You could also ask anybody else who had judged the competition.
--Littleghostboo[ talk ] 03:19, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
P.S. You have a chance of winning the next competition (if there is one), I think, based on what I see. Not a very high chance, still gotta work on your organisation.
[edit] W. G. Grace
I wasn't aware that Grace had gone to Cambridge. I wouldn't have thought him academically able enough. Do you have a source for it? Thanks. JH (talk page) 10:21, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WP:BUPC
Episode II of the Best User Page Contest begins on the last week of August. But there are certain requirements. To enter you must have at least 450 edits, most of them to the mainspace. Thank you and good luck! See you there Marlith T/C 16:13, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Music userboxes
Sorry to have undone a lot of your work for you, but unfortunately, the music album userboxes that you created can't contain the album artwork - it's a violation of WP:FUC to have and fair use images (which album artwork almost always is) in the user namespace. --fuzzy510 22:11, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Same point in relation to Oxford userboxes with fair-use images (such as the one you created for Wadham). Versions of college crests used on WP under a claim of fair use can't be used on userpages through userboxes. I've reverted to the previous versions of the Wadham templates, and please review the rest of your userboxes to make sure they comply. Also, on two related points,
- you shouldn't really empty a category then immediately tag it with "db-empty". Wait 4 days, as the speedy deletion criteria say.
- the category names you've been using for your new categories are inconsistent with the categories that are already there - "Foo College, Oxford" has been the general standard, not "Foo, University of Oxford". You'll notice that all the Oxbridge college articles and categories are named in that manner too. Is there any particular reason for the categories you're creating to adopt a different naming format?
- Let me know if there's any problem with this. Regards, BencherliteTalk 21:07, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Cambridge Tripos
> I saw on your user page that you are a physicist/mathematician and that you go
> to Cambridge. Do you think you can tell me what specifically do they teach there?
Sure; apologies for my delay in replying. As a physicist/mathematician, the natural thing to do is to apply for Mathematics with Physics. This is part of the Maths tripos, and maths is what you spend most of your time doing: 75% of your time (6 out of the 8 courses that first year Mathmos take), with the remaining 25% of your time being Physics -- the Physics part of the Natural Sciences tripos. So you do Maths with the Mathmos and Physics with the Natscis. (Bear in mind that you will need to take STEP II & III, since it is the Maths Tripos).
One thing to bear in mind, however, is that Mathematics with Physics is only an option for the first year: in the second year, you have to choose whether you want to continue on the Maths Tripos, in which case you'll be doing all Maths (though which will include a certain amount of theoretical Physics); or whether you want to switch to the NatSci tripos and do "Experimental and Theoretical Physics". But you don't have to decide that till nearly the beginning of your second year; so you lots of time to make up your mind mased on your first year. If you do want to continue with the Maths tripos, you will need to learn one of the Maths courses (Numbers and Sets) that you were allowed to miss in the first year, so if you don't want to be learning it over the summer it's best to just do all 8 of the Maths courses the first time round. There's no timetable clash with any of the lectures.
As for the syllabuses: for Maths, the Wikipedia page on the Maths tripos can probably explain it better than I can. Here's a few notes from the Maths tripos if you want to get a feel for them (The first year is Part 1A). As for Physics, there's broadly 4 main parts: 3 lecture courses (Principles of Mechanics, Relativity, and Waves; Electromagnetism, Oscillations, and Waves; and Quantum Mechanics and the Physics of Large Systems), and the practicals, which are 4 hours every fortnight.
I'm not completely sure from your question whether the above will have answered it; if you want more information on anything, please do tell me. Thanks! -- simxp (talk) 12:38, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Template:User Aularian
Hi, I've marked this template for speedy deletion for the following reasons.
- It recreates a template I originally created months ago.
- This template was moved to my userspace per the Userbox Migration policy/solution.
- The original template was then deleted in accordance with this policy.
Basically, a wiki-wide policy was proposed to move all userbox templates out of the main namespace and into userspace as they are, basically, cruft. It's nothing personal, just a policy. Please don't recreate the page after the deletion. Thanks AulaTPN 21:21, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Do not remove speedy delete tags. Subverting wiki-procedure is not looked upon kindly by admins. AulaTPN 22:26, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Userboxes/Education/United Kingdom/University of Oxford
I have several concerns with the edits to Oxford College useboxes that you have made recently:-
- All except Oriel are fair use images which can not be used on user pages. I am not certain whether your justification for the Oriel crest being fair use is correct.
- The use of terms such as "Balliolian" are not really standard, and I do not think there is consensus to replace terms such as "studied at Balliol College", "belongs to Balliol College" or "graduated from Balliol College" with that term.
- You have also had two of the earlier templates deleted, when there is no consensus to change them.
I am tempted to revert right back and restore the former Oriel and Pembroke userboes, but I'll leave them for you to respond. I will also raise this matter on the talk page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bduke (talk • contribs) 22:33:37, August 19, 2007 (UTC).

[edit] warning
Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to User:Hordernm, you will be blocked from editing. You have made changes to numerous other people's talk pages without their permission as well, and this can be considered vandalism. wikipediatrix 23:23, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use image use
As noted by others above, the use of copyrighted, fair use imagery outside of the main article namespace is strictly forbidden by our policies. The relevant policy is WP:NFCC item #9. You may not use such images on user templates. I removed some instances of this within the last 24 hours and you reverted my changes. I have undone those changes, and removed several other instances of fair use image use in templates by you. I am happy to explain this policy to you, but reverting these changes or inserting any other fair use imagery will be considered vandalism. Thank you, --Durin 02:09, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
