Piyush Mishra, is an Indian film actor, a lyricist, script and dialogue writer, and a well known theatre director and Hindi playwright. He spent his early life in Gwalior, where he received his education.

After his graduation from National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi in 1986, Piyush Mishra started his career as a theatre actor and went on to write and directed several plays as a part of Act-1 Group(1990-1995).In 1996 he joined Asmita Theatre Group, and performed his Popular one man shows An Evening with Piyush Mishra.He wrote lyrics for Asmita's popular plays. Piyush also acted as Maniac in operation three star(an adaptation of Dario Fo's play an accidental death of anarchist).Piyush is also known for his Life time performance in Swadesh Deepak's Court martial as Surat Singh ;first with Ranjeet Kapoor(1991)later under the direction of Arvind Gaur(1996)

Before moving into films, he first acted in a TV Serial, 'Rajdhani', directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, for Star TV.

He made his film debut with Mani Ratnam's, Dil Se in 1998, though he continued to stay in Delhi to pursue theatre. His transition from a playwright to writing for the films, happened when in 2001, his play on Bhagat Singh, 'Gagan Damama Bajyo' which had earlier got him rave reviews now got him an opportunity to write dialogues for the film, The Legend of Bhagat Singh. [2] It also got him Zee Cine Awards for Best Dialogue (2003). [3] After that, he moved to Mumbai, where he went on to establish a career as a lyricist, writer and actor.

He won great accolades for his performance as Kaka in Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of Macbeth, in Maqbool. For his performance has Hafeez bhai or Huffy Bhai on Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007) he also penned his own dialogues, delivered in poetry style. [4] Presently he lives in Mumbai, with his wife and two sons.
