Pixrat.com
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pixrat.com is a social bookmarking service for photos. It lets users bookmark and tag any images they come across while surfing the Web, put them in one place, search them by keyword and share them with friends. All this happens without permission from the authors of the photos, without any own creativity and without respect. Users even get credits for other people's work. Pixrat stores thumbnails of original images and when a user clicks on the image, they are led directly to the original Web page.
Pixrat was launched in March 2006 by Ruban Phukan and Rajesh Warrier who co-founded the company RHR Networks Private Limited. The company also launched Bixee.com, which is a job search engine for India.
Pixrat.com got acquired by MIH India, the Indian arm of the South African media giant Naspers in December 2006.
Pixrat was selected as one of the top 30 non-US web 2.0 sites by Business 2.0 magazine in July 2007.
