Pixadex was an image management utility geared towards managing computer icons, created by Panic and The Iconfactory for Mac OS X. It is the successor to Mac OS 9's IconDropper, also by the Iconfactory. Version 3 of the icon changing application CandyBar, also from Panic, integrates the functionality of Pixadex, and Pixadex is no longer available as a standalone app.
[edit] Software features
- Collections
- Nested collections
- Smart collections: collections based on criteria, similar to Smart Folders (Mac OS X v10.4+).
- Spotlight search in Mac OS X v10.4+.
- Import files to be used as icons (any QuickTime supported format).
[edit] iContainer
The iContainer file format is used by Pixadex to distribute icons in a single file. iContainer files retain the icons, display settings (background for the collection), copyright info (author, copyright string, website) and the icon name. CandyBar also uses a different version of the iContainer format, although they are compatible in most regards.
