Pittsburgh South Side
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pittsburgh South Side was an American basketball team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that was a member of the Central Basketball League and the various incarnations of the Western Pennsylvania Basketball League. Joseph "Joe" Meech Leithead served as coach and captain of the South Side team from 1900 through 1905. This was probably the best local professional team of all time. It twice defeated the famous Buffalo Germans whose proud boast it was that they never lost a series to any team. After his playing days, Leithead served as president of the Central Basketball League for four years. The team dropped out of the league during the 1911/12 season.
