[edit] Per Wikipedia's guidelines ....

What is, "PER WIKIPEDIA'S GUIDELINES AND POLICIES REGARDING PLOTS, PLEASE DO NOT ADD ANYMORE INFORMATION TO THIS PLOT", right after the plot? I don't want to add anything, but what Wikipedia guideline does this refer to? This seems suspiciously like someone who doesn't want their personal policy violated. Val42 04:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Several guidelines and policies actually. Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Style guidelines#Plot, and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction)#Fair use. It's there to let people know that Wikipedia is not a substitution for watching the film. It's one thing to copy edit a plot section, and another to add specifics that are unnecessary. I don't know which you plan to do, because you didn't say what you wanted to add.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 04:21, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Special Features

If you look at the special features, you can find in some of the documantaries concept art of the 3rd moved are on the walls. Like the epic mealstom battle.--Kevinlithrough 09:42, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Yup, so what does this contribute? Alientraveller 10:04, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] monkey jack

when the curse was lifted in the first movie, shouldnt it have been lifted from the monkey, too? yet it is still undead in this movie

Not that this information belongs here, but if It did I would say to check after the credits of Pirates of the Carribean WookMuff 14:21, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 90% of the roads on the island?

The article states that the "500-strong crew occupied around 90% of the roads on the island." It seems unlikely that almost every road on the island would be taken over for the film. Might this be a typo for "90% of the rooms"? - SimonP 01:48, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

No, they said roads. Unless my ears deceive me: Disney doesn't put English subtitles on their DVD extras. Alientraveller 11:48, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Escape from Monkey Island quote?

When sailing to Jambalaya Island (on the PS2 version, which is what I've got), Carla says "Loose the Kraken!" in the middle of a bunch of other familiar-sounding movie quotes... but the game came out before PotC was released. Are they both referring to some earlier movie quote? Or is the Pirates quote a throwback to Escape from Monkey Island? But then, the others say movie quotes... Not unless you have a... reliable source. I feel like a broken record player. Alientraveller 13:43, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] GA on Hold

These problems need correction:

  • No need of brackets in the intro(the cast list is present!)
  • I have removed the brackets from the lead as they seem pointless considering, after Vikrant Phadkay put, the cast list is actually present in the article (it is a repition of information that is not needed). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jhfireboy (talkcontribs) 23:31, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Remove the See Also section (All the links are present at the bottom of the article)
  • Integrate all the stubby subsections under "Reception", rename it "Release and reception" and merge DVD release also there. Vikrant Phadkay 15:44, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
While I removed the see also list, I see no need to erase mention of the cast from the lead. Alientraveller 15:51, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
But there are too small subsections; and why is DVD release stated after reception? Vikrant Phadkay 14:57, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for passing it. Alientraveller 15:53, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Film budget?

I quoted the budget from IMDb, but according to Alientraveller that's not reliable enough. Fair enough.

Does anyone have a more reliable source for this film's budget? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drummondjacob (talkcontribs) 08:54, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

I believe Bignole had a link to an article showing why Disney never officially confirmed the budget: it was so big that the studio feared market shares would drop if the film "underperformed" ie only making around $700 million or so, and not the $1 billion that it did.
Also, Box Office Mojo and IMDb merely took the announced $450 million budget for both films and halved it: but the budget for both films may have risen since. Alientraveller 09:04, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I hear you. Sorry for the trouble. Drummondjacob 09:18, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Assuming Good Faith"

As Edit Centric, Alientraveller and myself have said on the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End discussion page, there are a lot of random IP's and Users writing "mishmash and nonsense" on these pages. Yes, we understand that new users and big fans are enthusiastic to edit, but please, check with us here if you want to edit something. We think of edits such as changing the stars from "Keira Knightley" to "Hilary Duff" as vandalism, though you may not have meant it that way. Please, please keep your edits to a minimum.

NEW USERS: please use a sandbox to test your article writing and editing skills. It isn't necessary for you to test your skills here. Please also refrain from creating accounts just to edit these pages to your preferences. We understand that there are "Sparrabeth" shippers out there, and other sort of AU changers, but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a forum or RP. Thank you. [edit] Monte Cristo

An interesting parallel:

  • The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas: The character Edmond Dantès escapes the Chateau d'If by hiding himself in a body bag and being thrown into the sea.
  • Pirates: The character Jack Sparrow escapes the Turkish Prison by hiding himself in a coffin and being thrown into the sea.

Coincidence?79.193.109.84 (talk) 19:07, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I noticed the familiarity, however, I don't think it really pertains to this article that much, as we can't put something in that we NOTICED, rather, we can put something we can source. BlackPearl14Pirate Lord-ess 03:41, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I also noticed the similarity, but also feel it's not worth mentioning. For one, Jack's escape is not really that original. Any captive escaping from an island prison would have few options, and hiding in a coffin or body bag would be one obvious method.PNW Raven (talk)
