Talk:Pirate (disambiguation)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I deleted the porn movie here and I think the other movie and the video game should be deleted too. We don't have every movie that refers to pirates here -- e.g. "Pirates of the the Silicone Valley" -- and we shouldn't. The entry makes no sense read as "A pirate is ... the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean". No it isn't.--csloat 23:04, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

I separated out intellectual property piracy (e.g. copyright, patent, trademark). Do biopiracy and yoga piracy belong there too? --Nowa 10:09, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

An offsensive term for gay men, to be sure--should it be added? --EngineerScotty 20:04, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Possibly should be mentioned - I came to the Pirate page looking for information to support a friend's claim that it means 'gay', which I'd never heard before... Amanita 16:13, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cookies?

I just bought some cookes by Christies entitled "Pirates"... peanut butter and oatmeal. Are they new? If not, maybe they deserve a spot here.70.65.138.179

[edit] Hmm...

I removed...

"Pirate, pirates or piracy may also refer to: The kind of pirate that could beet a ninja with one eye closed.(Oh yeah one eye is already closed) so there take that ninjas"

As it really has no relevance to anything about pirates other then a stupid thing that seems to go around the internet. If someone would like to add something on the pirate vs. ninja debate, then for heavens sake at least make it sound intelligent and place it in a small section at the bottom of the REAL article containing information on pirates (and refrain from being biased). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.22.181.196 (talk) 03:38, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Restoring criminal acts to this page

The revision of 13 January had the effect of making this a disambiguation page solely about cultural expressions of piracy, with a separate disambig page at Pirate (piracy) for criminal acts. Piracy--in the sense of desperate individuals in small boats who attack ships, kill the passengers and crew, and sell the cargo--is extremely common today. The cultural expressions of the "golden age of piracy" are important, undoubtedly, but separating the two makes very little sense to me. I'm going to merge the content back here.
