[edit] To Do
"History" section needs content."Modern piracy" section needs content.- Need better and more sources. There are probably many books on Southeast Asian history or Melaccan history that have a lot of information on piracy in the Malaccan Strait.
Pictures?A list of historically prominent pirates would be nice.(List needs to be populated though)Categorisation - to be done after the article moves to its own article space.
- Added documentary photo of seaman during anti-pirate training in the Straits of Malacca. Hopefully, the photo's encyclopedic value outweighs the poor image quality.--Fishdecoy 04:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I've crossed out the request for pictures on this task list, as there are now two, as opposed to none at all, when I first created the article. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 20:22, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dubious rationale for increased piracy
The fall of Suharto's authoritarian regime, resulting in a weak central Indonesia government, & lack of coordination among Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia are stronger contributing factors than terrorism as the catalyst for increased piracy in the Straits of Malacca. Piracy is a "business affair", abeit illegal - currently, the profits strongly outweigh the risks.--Confuzion 01:25, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Liang Dao Ming
Hi Hong Qi Gong, I have just built a page about the pirates (梁道明 & 陈祖義) in the Strait of Malacca, they are interlink with your Piracy in the Strait of Malacca. Liang Dao Ming

- Good job. I've started a section called "Prominent pirates in the Strait of Malacca" and added him in. --- Hong Qi Gong 20:27, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Re: Good, maybe we can help to add some points in both pages. L joo 20:32, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Found another source on historic piracy
I found and added (in the External links section) another source on historic piracy in the Malacca Straits[1]. That page is not entirely devoted to piracy in the Malacca Straits, but it does spend a few paragraphs talking about it, from the perspective of how the Mongols and the Chinese were involved. I haven't added content to the article from this source yet. But I just thought I'd mention it here for anybody who wants to take a look at it and add content to the article from the source.
