Pirita is one of the 8 administrative districts (linnaosa in Estonian) of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Despite the fact that Pirita occupies relatively big area, it has a population of only 12,985, as of 2006, mainly because it mostly consists of private houses, instead of block of flats typical to some other districts of Tallinn, such as Lasnamäe and Mustamäe. Pirita beach is located in Pirita.
Natural and some other advantages, such as yachting port and beach, make Pirita one of the most prestigious districts of Tallinn. In summer it's a popular beach, largest in town, with up to 30000 visitors daily. Large parts of the district consist of newly-built, modern buildings and houses.
Pirita has 9 subdistricts (asum in Estonian):
- Iru
- Kloostrimetsa
- Kose
- Laiaküla
- Lepiku
- Maarjamäe
- Merivälja
- Mähe
- Pirita
