Pirajá da Silva

Manuel Augusto Pirajá da Silva (Camamu, Bahia, Brazil 1873 — Salvador, Bahia, Brazil 1961) was a Brazilian parasitologist, researcher and doctor.

He graduated at Bahia School of Medicine in 1896 (currently harboured by Federal University of Bahia) and was responsible for identification and description of pathogenic agent as well as physiopathological cycle of Schistosomiasis in 1908. After initial findings, he moved to Europe in order to take his studies and researches further on the matter, mainly whilst he lived in Hamburg and Paris.
