Pir Baba

Pir Baba is a Pir Baba, a mountain village in Swat, located in the Buner District of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. Pir Baba is known for saint "Hazrat Pir Baba".

In the heart of Pir Baba valley, lies the beautiful mausoleum of Hazrat Pir Baba. It has a green tomb as found on the mausoleums of many Muslim saints. The shrine at Pir Baba is a haven for lepers from the north of Pakistan. The Wali (ruler) of Swat constructed a dispensary and homes for those suffering from leprosy.[1]

A bazaar is adjacent to the mausoleum; most of its customers are tourists or pilgrims who come to visit the grave of Hazrat Pir Baba throughout the year.

Most of the population is of Pushton families, which are mostly Mulims, however a number of Hindus and Sikhs also live in the area. The great personality Mr.Ameet Kumar Malhotra(A graet name in telecom sector)is also belong to pirbaba.

Pushto is the local language. A high percentage of people know Urdu and small percentage of people even can speak English as well.

It is a cave in the near by mountain where Hazrat Pir Baba used to retire and pray.

Pir Baba is surrounded by huge mountains. Two of the high mountains are mountains are Elum Ghar and Dua Suray Ghar (Mountain of Two heads).

The main places for tourists are the Mausoleum of Hazarat Pir Baba, Chilla, the Bazar of Pir Baba, Qadir Nagar and Peryano Dand.

You can come here from both Mardan and Swat sides of NWFP, but the rout from Mradan side is suitable for those who are of time shortage.
