User talk:Pinikas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome!
Welcome to Wikipedia, Pinikas! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:
- How to edit a page
- Editing, policy, conduct, and structure tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)
I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Acetic Acid 09:08, August 26, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hadjidakis Controversy
Pinikas, why do you continuously remove the categorisation of Hadjidakis as a " gay musician"? It is widely known that Hadjidakis was openly gay.
- Though it was widely known, Hadjidakis himself never admited such thing. I think such categorization is misleading.
-
- A friend of mine has a book, in whose edition the Orchestra of Colours is involved. I do not remember the title of the book, I will ask him and tell you. Anyway it can be found in almost every big Greek bookshop.
-
- In it, Agathi Dimitrouka( one of the people who wrote lyrics for Hadjidakis' songs), she is asked by the journalist whether Gatsos was annoyed by Hadjidakis' "sexual preferences". She answers that although Gatsos was from Peloponnisos, he was very open-minded.
-
- She also says that because Hadjidakis was very charming, Gatsos said to him (in a humorous manner) that fortunately he( Hadjidakis) did not like women, because if he liked women, all the women would prefer him( Hadjidakis) and there would be no women left for the others.
-
- In the same book Michael Kamen( member of NewYork Rock 'n Roll Ensemble who worked with Hadjidakis) says that the album "Reflections" in the beginning was meant to be a soundtrack of a film by a Turkish director, . He says that one of the reasons why Hadjidakis stopped working for the Turkish director was the fact that he made continuously fun of Hadjidakis' homosexuality.
-
- In the same book Theodorakis says that Hadjidakis was proud to be "different"( because he considered it a case of freedom and fullfilment) at an era when it was very difficult to be different.
-
- I think that it since Hadjidakis' homosexuality is widely known in Greek society, since some of his closest friends confirm that Hadjidakis was gay and since NOONE of his friends and family( not even himself) has ever denied the truthfulness of the widely spread belief of Hadjidakis' homosexuality, it is clear that Hadjidakis was gay.
-
- If you want I can tell you in a few days the name of the above book and the exact pages at which Hadjidakis' close friends and coworkers confirm that he was gay.
-
- If you insist on your opinion, we can contact Wikipedia, demand a third opinion, arbitration etc.
[edit] On Aegean Sea Template
Thank you for correcting the images descriptions I submitted to Rhodes page. You may have notice that at the bottom of the page there is turkish flag. Do you know a way we can remove it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mouras (talk • contribs) 16:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- The Turkish flag you are reffering to is part of the Aegean Sea template. Countries of the Aegean Sea include both Greece and Turkey so the flag/country name is correctly placed in the list. Still, you can add comments to the template discussion page at Template_talk:Aegean_Sea. Thanks pinikas (talk) 16:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Peanut butter and jelly sandwich
As you may know, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, and trivia sections contradict our manual of style. The article in question could probably benefit from a scholarly and well-sourced analysis of the importance of PB&J in contemporary Western culture, and, when such a section is written, the Family Guy and Seinfeld factoids could be integrated as valuable references. Until that time, I see no prospect of integrating them as recommended by {{trivia}}. Feezo (Talk) 09:40, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- I know you are right, but, there are thousands of articles in Wikipedia with trivia sections. I preffer to see {{trivia}} more of a general guideline rather than a strict regulation. Following the rules in such a strict manner is not always constructive. Nonetheless I just want to copy here a comment by User:Kapuchinski from Talk:Pringles#Pringles_have_a_lot_of_flavors._Get_used_to_it.
"Wikipedia does not have the paper limitations of a normal encyclopedia. So there is less of a need to omit data, and I don't think there's any need to omit fun facts. Isn't Wikipedia a great source for fun facts? The main page is devoted to them. I am going to restore the flavors section because it has these tantalizing, delicious facts. I would be grateful if someone would rewrite it without omitting any crazy rice-infused, strawberry-flavor fun facts. Otherwise just keep them in their poorly-presented glory, as per the guidelines." [edit] License tagging for Image:Fdisk.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Fdisk.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:PhantasmagoriaInterlaced.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:PhantasmagoriaInterlaced.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ugh Computer Game Screenshot1.png
Image:Ugh Computer Game Screenshot1.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ugh Computer Game Screenshot1.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Ugh Computer Game Screenshot1.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:04, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:ArchangelosRuins.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:ArchangelosRuins.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stan 03:50, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Phantasmagoria box.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Phantasmagoria box.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:54, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
