[edit] Copyright violation

Hi,

I've noticed your work on Prabir Ghosh. You work is appreciated, but please do not copy copyrighted material into Wikipedia. I have unfortunately had to delete most of it - but you can still view it here, and rewrite it, and reinsert the rewritten material.

Also, we try to follow NPOV, and so the person's own website should not be the sole reference, and we should try not to support the POV of the person. Although clearly you & I agree strongly with Prabir Ghosh (are you him? or are you a relative?) we should not use POV and unverifiable phrases such as "the scourge of every guru, godman, fakir, faith-healer and fat swami." --Singkong2005 talk 02:53, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

If what I remember from Prabir Ghosh's books, Mr. Pinaki Ghosh is his son. I haven't checked the copyvio text yet, but it may be the case that he does have/can give permission, but it will require definite proof of permission from the website's owner. Anyway, I think it would be possible, with some effort, to make the article NPOV. Prabir Ghosh is quite famous with his series of books. --Ragib 14:45, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I read about him in the Sydney Morning Herald a few years ago, so I can believe he's famous. It would be good to get permission for the material, then we could modify it only for NPOV purposes, and not worry about the copyright. We still would be best to have additional 3rd party sources of information, though.
Pinaki, are you able to get permission according to the principles at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission? If you need help, just ask. --Singkong2005 talk 09:53, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comments

Hi Pinaki, Thanks for your message. Actually, Wikipedia is built with people volunteering to edit it in their spare time. There is no payment associated with it. People do it because they like to edit ... that's all. Apparently, that has been successful in creating the largest encyclopedia ever built.

Editing in wikipedia is very simple, just go ahead and edit a page by clicking the link at the top. I'm also adding a welcome message with various useful links (see below).

You might also be interested in the Bangla wikipedia ... (see http://bn.wikipedia.org , you'd need unicode fonts and Bangla rendering support to view that).

Feel free to ask me questions on my talk page when you face problems.

Thanks. --Ragib 18:10, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Prabir Ghosh (indian rationalist) article

Hi Singkong, I am Prabir's son, Pinaki. Some of the material has been borrowed from his srai.org site, which my father Prabir Ghosh owns. What kind of permission do u need in this case?

Thanks Pinaki... sorry to take a while to get back to you. I'll look into it and try to get a specific answer. Probably we'll need an email from your father. Or possibly an email declaring you are authorised to give permission will be okay. Will try to get details soon - I just keep getting distracted.

btw, if you know a good reference debunking Flowform, a critical view is needed on that article... without imposing the skeptics' viewpoint, of course... just presenting it, with references. --Singkong2005 talk 10:43, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Michael, which are the specific areas or lines/sentences that you found lacking balance, or sounding like praise? That may help me to fix the places. Regards.
The Biography section is biased: it contains nothing about the controversy he has to have stirred up, for example. The entire style of the article is also not NPOV: it reads like he is inerrant. Considering your connection to Prabir, I suggest you read Wikipedia:List of bad article ideas. Generally, you must be very very careful when writing articles you are close to the subject of. It encourages bias. And stop removing tags, please. Michaelbusch 13:51, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

This is to inform you that I am very much interested in your Dad's work and life. His books have always been a guide to myself. From your talk page I have found that you have faced quite an amount of trobule regarding copyrights. The easiest way to tackle this is to get the permission from Mr. Prabir Ghosh himself so his works can be incorporated here. But remember anything you submit in wikipedia falls into the criterias mentioned in gpl.

An image should be added in this article. Simply scan one of his photographs and upload here. But you will have to release it under gpl too.

[edit] License tagging for Image:Unishkuri.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Unishkuri.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:00, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unishkuri image

I saw the image u uploaded in the topic unish-kuri. You didnot licenced it under gpl. Upload a new version of the file here and submit the licence. Otherwise it will soon be deleted.

I have arranged the books written by your dad in a table. Besides I added the cleanup tag in the article. Please don't get angry. I am sure you will soon feel that there are many enhancemets yet to be done for this article.

Don't forget to sign your name by clicking at the sign button in the editing toolbox on you talk posts.

Hi I saw the article on Unish-Kuri. Its good. Nice to see article son Bengali literature coming up in wikipedia. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:51, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Well well...I guess you are Pinaki Ghosh, son of Ptabir Ghosh, right? I read some of your adventures — Pinki as the protagonist! Nice to meet you. Bye.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:53, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re Prabir Ghosh article

Hi Michael, Pinaki here. I visited your site yesterday. U seem to have an interesting subject to study...asteroids! In fact I am currently writing a novel, where there is a scene at the climax, where hundreds of meteors shower. Can u help me, letting me know whether meteorites & asteroids are the same thing? Is it possible for hundreds of meteors to shower? (I had myself in 1998 seen hundreds of meteros showering). What is the scientific cause of this phenomenon? On the other issue...I noticed that u did some editing with my father's article...Prabir Ghosh. I believe it has been nutralized after the editing. so, does it need that tag anymore? If u think 'yes', what other changes do u suggest? I invite u to make those changes. Regards, Pinaki Ghosh

Meteorite = piece of asteroid that hit the ground. Meteor shower = bunch of meteorites hitting the upper atmosphere at once. They come from comets. This information is available in Wikipedia. For your father's article, see Talk:Prabir Ghosh, under NPOV tag. There have been no edits to the article to neutralize it (since the addition of the tags). I have not made edits, because if I were to do so, there would be little article left. This problem was noted by another editor as well. Michaelbusch 11:42, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Michael for the info. I'll do rewrite the article; but currently a bit busy with my novel...maybe in a few days time.

Pinaki Ghosh

[edit] Good work on Shilpa Shetty

Thank you very much for the compliments! I am currently looking for ways to add a picture because Wikipedia has very strict rules about what is admissible and what is not, but I'm getting there slowly. Thanks again!:) Ekantik talk 23:52, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

Hello Pinakida! How are you? I had already seen Unish Kuri, and Anandamela. One thing on Anandamela. Tintin was pulled off probably because all the Tintin comics had already been published in Anandamela by then, including Tintin in Congo. The Alpha Art was not published though. And in fact Alpha art was not a complete book. Also, the change in character of Anandamela after Unish Kuri was started may be written. It became more oriented to a lower age group, right? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:08, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, please send me the link for Alph Art. (he he. I was spelling it as Alpha Art!)--Dwaipayan (talk) 03:50, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes the links rae not working :( --Dwaipayan (talk) 07:12, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Reply from Ragib

Hi Pinaki,

  1. The Almeda University page is about a type of organizations called diploma mills in the USA. I think it has gained some sort of infamy in the media.
  1. I'm not really editing or looking after the Buddhadeb Bhattacharya article ... I merely have it on my watchlist. I reverted this because the information added was POVish in nature, and without citations. I really don't know anything about the police incident, so I think someone with better knowledge can do that. You can ask User:Dwaipayanc to do this, as he is from Kolkata. --Ragib 01:18, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([1]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [2]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.
