[edit] Story Placement/Structure within the framework of a musical film
The song occurs in the story when aspiring songwriter/pianist, Eddie Hodges invents a song, on the spot, mocking the unmerited conceit of his cousin. This song is not an altogether "musical" moment as Hodges uses the plot device of playing the piano to introduce his and his sister's song. If the characters broke into song spontaneously, without them having to walk over to the piano to sing it, then the song would be more traditionally in line with the classical musical format. The song's performance does however incite a furthering of the plot which is consistent with musical structure. Several songs in this film are therefore not a spontaneous "breaks" into music and lyrics and therefore fall short of being classicly "musical" in nature.
