Pine Belt Southern
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pine Belt Southern Railroad operated on two separate track segments in East Central Alabama. Originally running from a Norfolk Southern connection at Nickols to Hurtsboro, Alabama. A second branch extended from Roanoke, Jct., near Opelika, Alabama, to Lafayette, Alabama.
Despite potential profitability, the Abernathy Group neglected customers along the line, prompting eventual abandonment of the Hurtsboro segment [1] and later the Lafayette line [2]
Pine Belt Southern motive power included: ex-Southern GP35 #2676, ex-Seaboard GP30 3059, and ex-Norfolk Southern #3986.
