Pinchas Burstein (1927–1977), known as Maryan, was a Polish-born Jewish expressionist painter. Born in Nowy Sacz, he was sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. After the war he produced largely autobiographical work, holding major exhibitions in Jerusalem and Paris (where he lived after the war). He moved to New York in the 1960s, changing his name to Maryan S. Maryan and died there of a heart attack in 1977. He was buried in the Montparnasse cemetery in Paris.
