I hereby award you this barnstar for helping me with vandalism by other users. I concur with Ambuj Saxena. Please don't leave for good. Take a break if you need to, then come back.--Tachikoma 07:45, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I truly, truly hope that our discussion last night didn't set this off, but I have a sinking feeling that it, at the very least, wasn't very helpful. Had I realised you were so stressed, I would have responded differently, but at that moment I felt a need to defuse a situation that has been the source of so many conflicts in the past. I sincerely understand your frustration about the outcome of the dispute between these users, though. If that's a big part of your wikistress now, please realise that no matter how hard we try, some issues just can't be resolved, no matter how much energy or effort we have invested in it. Let's learn from it, take a few deep breaths (either literally or in the form of a short wikibreak) and go on... Kind regards and all the best, --JoanneB 07:59, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Do not leave, please. The kind contributors are always around, but occasionally they are just not as audible as the unkind contributors in some places. Do not let that get you down. —xyzzyn 11:50, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

When there are 100 people in a room with 99 quite and one making a noise, we only hear the noise created by a single person. We don't notice that 99% of the people are quitely doing their work. The work we are doing quitely is building an encyclopedia. Once you come back from the Wikibreak, concentrate on improving articles you haven't yet edited. Even better, start new articles. You will again feel the youthful zeal you felt in December 2005. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 12:33, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

RfA nom.

Thanks so much for that great RfA nom! I will definitely accept, however, I must wait for 3 weeks first. I am leaving again for a real life vacation this weekend (not enough time for a seven day RfA process) and will be back two weeks from then. I will prepare by answering the questions now, and it will "go live" in about 3 weeks. Once again, thanks so much!! —Mets501 (talk) 15:53, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of User:1652186

Do you consider that there is anything on my user page that User:LucVerhelst could need to have me blocked? Not that I acknowledge that there is anywhere else. 1652186 17:24, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Glad to see you're back

Hi there, I'm glad to see you're back to Wikipedia. I hope you're feeling better.--Tachikoma 20:54, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Likewise. I was thinking, police officers tend to get depressed because they so often deal with all the negative aspects of society -- burglaries, muggings, killings, and broken homes -- and they sometimes forget to see the good in people. As Nietzsche said, "if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." Perhaps, as an admin, you deal with the seedier sides of Wikipedia more often, and that has to get old. Nobody would blame you for taking a break, if you're getting stressed. I hope you do well, and for what it's worth, this newb will always listen if you need to talk. Remember to do the things you enjoy, and more than that, remember the Wikilove. Regards, Luna Santin 22:51, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

In closing the AFD you speedied the duplicate article that did not end with a full stop. The article I actually put up for AFD was the one with the full stop in the title (see above). I'm sorry - reading back - the AFD was't at all clear that there were two articles - the one for AFD and the other up for speedy. My fault. Still getting the hang of all this. User:Crabs!!!

This user has contacted the unblocking list seeking information on why he was blocked. I assume it was because of an inappropriate username. This is his message.

"I'd like to know why 'Crabs!!!' is an inappropriate name. As SOON as I created my account, I was looking around my file to see what everything did, and when I clicked contributions, it said I had a message. Figuring it was regarding something that would welcome me and explain different things, I opened it, and found I was banned. Here is the information which I was told to provide on the webpage:

   * Your IP address, which is 72.141.231.9
   * The name of the blocking admin, which is Pilotguy
   * The reason you were blocked, which is: BLOCK!!!

I assume the block was because of my name, because that was one of the included reasons, but I'd like to know why 'Crabs!!!' is inappropriate. There is not a single thing wrong with that name."

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Illiteracy will Prevail

The page in question that was ripped off uses PHP and is nested within frames. Provided for you below is the link to the direct information that was lifted. Please do not edit the article here with this information, since it doesn't have the left panel functionality it kills the ability to effectively use our site.

http://www.livenirvana.com/sessions/home/december-1985.php

Scroll past the chart at the top to where it says "Notes". You can check the previous versions on your site that had the full article and you'll see why we insisted that it be removed. I am sorry I come off short-tempered, but I was "issued" a final warning for deleting a plagiarized document and providing a link to the source. I felt there were more appropriate ways to handle the situation.

To get to this (or any other session in Nirvana's history), simply pick whether it was a band practice, studio session, radio session, etc. from the side bar, then click the date. In this instance, it is:

Band Practice and Home Recordings > December, 1985

P.S. Leaving messages and navigating the edit portion of your site is a nightmare.

Here's a dilemma. You blocked the above user for being a vandal only account. Which it was. However, I'm curious how you're going to deal with THIS account, since I haven't and don't plan on engaging in vandalism. Amazing Grace 00:40, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Since you're actually approachable...

...please restore the ED discussion at DRV so it can have its full hearing. DRV debates stay up for 5 days, and that was barely two. Considering the gross process issues that the article encountered, it should be allowed the full discussion. --badlydrawnjeff talk 00:50, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

History of Wal-Mart

Would you care to explain your actions as to why you reverted ALL of my edits to this page, of which none were vandalism, and all were attempting to improve the article so that there was no copyvio or anything else wrong with the page? Now the page is protected, and I don't see any valid reason why it is protected? There's no vandalism, no edit warring, going on. Just an editor trying to improve an article. Not like there's anything wrong with that. Dr. Cash 01:01, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't realize that I didn't follow directions before. I just saw this ugly copyvio template and thought I could solve the problem without reading directions,. . . oops! Dr. Cash 01:42, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

User:155.84.57.253

I saw you'd unblocked User:155.84.57.253 because it is a shared IP. While I'm not sure that the block was entirely merited, I am very familiar with this user and I have never seen any evidence of the IP being used by more than one person. I don't think that any collateral damage would result form a block. Also, the blocking policy says that prior to an unblock there should be a discussion with the blocking admin, or on AN/I. -Will Beback 22:10, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

User:FeedThePigeons

Hi. You protected User:FeedThePigeons on July 7th. That's fine, but I'm hoping you can add Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of EddieSegoura to the user page for me. I've also emptied Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Pilotguy which should be deleted (it was created to attack you). Thanks. If you have any questions, please contact me. —Viriditas | Talk 00:48, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I forgot to add: this is the IP that ties the two users together: 205.188.117.12 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log). And while anyone could use that AOL proxy, it was that and the fact that both EddieSegoura and FeedThePigeons claimed to live in New York and were both railfans. See [2] and [3]. You might notice that Eddie claims to live in Brooklyn while FeedThePigeons claims to live in New Jersey, but if you read FTP's talk page, it appears he was creating the vanity page for his friend, "Mark Burnitz" who lives in NJ. The user also engaged in similar behavior regarding an inappropriate article by the same name (Mark Burnitz) in the same way that EddieSegoura behaved with Exicornt; those items, plus the exact same RfA vandalism makes it open and shut in my mind. —Viriditas | Talk 01:16, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

no

there is actually NO reason why it is blocked, at all, the only thing at the top of the page is a standard blocking template, the is no reason, and no explanation, so unless you're suggesting that all IPs should be blocked, and you're willing to do the honors yourself and create the worlds largest range block 1.0.0.0/255.255.255.255 I see no reason for it to remain in place, and will find someone who will remove it--AOL account 14:41, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I regret the fact that you are unable to read, more so that you have this stupidly odd obsession with AOL. Again, they are welcome to register, like you did, if they wish to make positive contributions to Wikipedia. In the mentime, write the blocking admin (which is not me, obviously you are not accomplishing much by yelling at me) about it. --Pilotguy (roger that) 14:50, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
I would write the blocking admin, except that she seems to have only a handful of edits, and only visits wikipedia once every few weeks, I suspect that my chances of actually getting a response are quite small. Also, someone seems to have butchered a perfectly good template by copy pasting the functions directly from Template:Indefblockeduser to Template:IndefblockedIP, which, from the TFD discussion is never supposed to be used on a non-open proxy sharedip anyway--AOL account 14:57, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Hm?

User:155.84.57.253, whom you blocked for 6 months as an extended vandal... are you sure you didn't mean some other IP, possibly one quite close to that? I've looked through recent edits by that IP, and there's nothing that seems particularly objecionable. DS 14:48, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

User:Headerfooter

I was watching this too, and it's suspicious, but it seems possible to me that there's no malicious intent here. Do you think 48 hours of block for disruption is really neccessary? Friday (talk) 16:46, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the timely reversion of that vandalism to my userpage. --Alf melmac 23:47, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

A difficult request

Hi Pilotguy,

A somewhat biaised report of claimed "uncivility" was made on WP:ANI#Ethnic slur by an editor against an other. Both spend their time yelling at each other and disputing over the content. However, some people taking part in the discussion think that the report was false and the blocking injust, and are asking for a block review, claiming that the block is one-sided an unjustified.

I'm asking you because AFAIK, you have no involvement is this affair, and therefore will be able to provide a neutral point of view on this whole sordid thing.

Thanks in advance, Grafikm (AutoGRAF) 12:00, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Update: forget it, it was reviewed already. Sorry for bothering you :) -- Grafikm (AutoGRAF) 20:14, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
