Piltchard & Wren

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Piltchard & Wren are two minor characters in Joseph Heller's classic novel Catch-22.

Piltchard and Wren are captains who are in charge of joint squadron operations. Described as two short, unassuming men, they wanted nothing more out of life than to fly combat missions. They had flown hundreds of missions and wanted to fly hundreds more. Piltchard and Wren went out of their way not to cause trouble or confront anyone. They cannot bring themselves to discipline Yossarian for constantly turning back from the mission to Bologna. As with the medics Gus and Wes, Pilchard and Wren are always described in tandem, as if they were part of one composite character.
