Pilotdrift is an indie pop band from Texarkana, Texas.

[edit] Background

The band was formed in 2004 by Kelly Carr, Micah Dorsey, Jay Budzilowski, Ben Rice, and Eric Russell. After touring in and around Texarkana, Tyler, and Dallas, their self-released album, Iter Facere, was discovered by Tim DeLaughter and Julie Doyle of The Polyphonic Spree. Pilotdrift was the first band to be signed to The Polyphonic Spree's Good Records label. In mid 2005, John David Blagg joined the band.

Their second album, Water Sphere was released in September of 2005. It included several remastered tracks from Iter Facere, as well as five new songs. Before the release of Water Sphere, Micah Dorsey chose to leave the group to pursue other interests.

In early 2005, Pilotdrift supported the Polyphonic Spree on a small series of East and West Coast shows. In the summer of 2005, Pilotdrift was taken on tour with Eisley, a band from nearby Tyler, Texas. In early 2006, Pilotdrift supported Supergrass on their North American tour. Also in 2006, Pilotdrift supported Guster on the California leg of their North American tour.

In July of 2006, Original Electric Recording Company did a limited edition 7" clear vinyl European release of Pilodrift's single "Caught in My Trap."

Also in 2006, Pilotdrift's songs "Elephant Island" and "So Long" appeared on the television series "The Deadliest Catch."

In December of 2006, bassist Jay Budzilowski decided to leave Pilotdrift to pursue full-time broadcast television and a family.

In March of 2008, drummer and producer Ben Rice decided to leave Pilotdrift to join the Special Forces of the US Army.

Pilotdrift plans upon releasing their third full length album in 2008.

Since the band's beginning, it has gained popularity all over the United States and parts of Canada and Europe.
