"Pilot" is the first episode of FX's landmark series, The Shield. It was written by series creator Shawn Ryan and originally aired on March 12, 2002.

- Shawn Ryan won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for this episode and Clark Johnson won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for this episode.
- The song played at the end of the episode is "Bawitdaba" by Kid Rock. Series creator Shawn Ryan claimed, in the audio commentary, that he constantly listened to the song while writing the episode.
