Allison Parker (Courtney Thorne-Smith) discovers her room mate Natalie has left the Melrose Place appartement in the middle of the night. Rhonda Blair (Vanessa A. Williams) said she saw her leaving with al of her bags. Allison now has to pay the rent of not only herself, but also of Natalie's. She soon has to find another room mate because she can't pay the rent by herself.

On the way to the office, where she works as a receptionist, Allison damages the car of her boss Hal Barber by accident. He first gets mad at her, but they soon talk to each other and discover they get along very well.

Meanwhile, Donna and David drop off their friend Kelly at Melrose Place, where she wants to meet her friend Jake Hanson (Grant Show). Neighbour Sandy Louise Harling (Amy Locane) tells her Jake isn't home.

Allison meets Billy Campbell (Andrew Shue), an old friend of Natalie. He says he wants to move out of his parent's home and is interested in moving in as Allison's room mate. She tells him she doesn't want a guy as a room mate. Before he leaves, he gives her his phone number. At the bar "Shooters", Sandy - who is working there as a waitress - tells Jake Kelly has dropped by.

Allison meets people who are interested to move in with her, but she doesn't think anyone will do fine. When Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro) drops by to tell her she will be evicted if she doesn't pay the rent anytime soon, she accepts Billy as her room mate. They soon discover they will have to adjust to each other.

Kelly confronts Jake with avoiding her and he responds she's suspecting more than he does. After a small fight, they make up. After he asks her out, they kiss. Meanwhile, Rhonda - who works as an instructor at an aerobic class - meets her student Daniel. He flirts with her and asks her out. She is first reluctant, but finally accepts his offer. She asks Jane Andrews Mancini for clothing advice, where Jane admits she feels lonely because her husband Michael spends most of his time at the hospital, where he works as a doctor. Meanwhile, Billy tells Allison he is a writer but she soon finds out he works as a dancing instructor and makes fun of him.

When Jake takes Kelly to "Shooters", Sandy makes fun of Kelly's age. Kelly is bothered by Donna, David and Steve and gets mad at Donna. Donna admits she doesn't trust Jake and thinks he is too old for her. Jake later that night thinks the same and dumps her. Meanwhile, Jane has arranged a romantic night with her husband, but this is interrupted when Michael has to tell to Allison Billy's part of the check hasn't been accepted. Allison is furious, but Billy soon comes up with his part of the money.

Rhonda's date with Daniel turns out to be a disaster. Meanwhile, Hal takes Allison out to a launching party of a new product and back home makes a pass at her. She pushes him away, but he still tries to kiss her. Billy finally comes to the rescue and Hal threatens to fire her before he leaves.

Jake makes up with Kelly. Allison admits she is glad Billy is her room mate and Jane tells Michael she is lonely the most of the time.
