Pilgrim Lutheran School, Chicago, is a Lutheran private school affiliated with Pilgrim Lutheran Church located in Chicago, IL. Collectively, the church and school are referred to as "Pilgrim Lutheran Church and School."

Pilgrim Lutheran School is a private preschool and elementary school located at 4300 North Winchester on Chicago's North Side (41°57′35″N 87°40′40″W / 41.959809, -87.677894). Students begin at age three and continue through 8th grade. The school was founded as a summer school in 1920. In 1921, it became a year-round school headed by Principal Alfred A. Rumsfeld. Today, Pilgrim's enrollment averages about 160 students. The school is fully accredited by the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association [1] and has earned recognition by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The stated philosophy of Pilgrim Lutheran School is:

Pilgrim Lutheran School is a Christ-centered school founded by Pilgrim Lutheran Church, which believes that each child is a unique gift of God. It is the purpose of Pilgrim Lutheran School to provide a strong faith based academic environment for each of its students that offers a safe place for their spirits and their minds to grow. Pilgrim combines a nurturing environment with progressive programs and high academic standards. The school uses a "whole child" approach, focusing on academic, spiritual, emotional, social, and physical development based on the total well being of the child. The curriculum is designed to maintain the highest academic standards. It assures that faith development is an integral part of the process of growth and enables students to successfully achieve a positive place for themselves in society. Students, parents, and staff learn to care about each other and work together in a variety of ways. Students grow as whole human beings and develop respect and esteem for themselves and others.[2]

Pilgrim admits students of any race, color or national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. Pilgrim does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national and ethnic origin in administration of educational policies and athletic and other school administered programs.

Nic Nootens, a 2004 Pilgrim graduate has been named Valedictorian of the class of 2008 at Jones College Preparatory School [3], a selective enrollment high school in downtown Chicago. Nic has been accepted for enrollment at the University of Chicago, the University of California at Berkeley, and New York University. He will attend NYU. Hannah Rarick, a former Pilgrim student currently enrolled in Lincoln Park High School recently participated in the Chicago Metro History Fair and her documentary "Florence Scala and the Fight against UIC Expansion" won her a place as a finalist. She received a superior rating in the Illinois State Expo History Fair in Springfield on May 8th, 2008. [4]

Pilgrim Kids Care is an innovative program at Pilgrim Lutheran School that teaches social responsibility through action. Students participate in year-round projects to unite the community in awareness of the prevalence of youth hunger and homelessness.
