Pilar is a city in Paraguay in the Pilar District. It is the capital of the department of Ñeembucú. It was founded in 1779 by Pedro Mello de Portugal. The population in 2008 is estimated at around 28,700. The most important industry is textiles, where the vast production facility of Manufactura de Pilar processes cotton.
There is one airport in Pilar, however there are no commercial airline traffic connected to it. Ferry traffic from the harbour of Pilar connects to Puerto Cano (Argentina).
