I am Pigman! Hear me roar!

Currently I am doing the daily rounds of arcane admin scutwork, the darkly Mephistophelian price of being an admin. If you yearn for the power and the glory of adminship, come look at AfDs needing to be closed and PRODded pages needing to be deleted/processed and understand the true inner mysteries of being a Wikipedia admin.

Incessant weeping rises from the depth,
A chorus of lamentation and regret
Fills the smoky pall and mist:
"Leap not lightly into this abyss."

I'm also wikignoming random articles with fierce abandon. (Fear the wikignome, respect the inner gnome.)

Although you can't really tell from my contribs, I have a deep and abiding interest in language structure and word origins (etymology}. I am an amateur philologist and sometimes read dictionaries linearly. I geek out over Samuel Johnson's 1755 dictionary and collect books of all kinds of slang whenever I can find them. I'm good at keeping my outre vocabulary under control for article writing and editing but I have the tendency to get overly florid and verbose on talk pages. I sometimes use obscure and obsolete definitions of words as well. This is, unfortunately, my normal writing voice and vocabulary. If that wasn't enough, I often employ an almost nineteenth century style of sentence structure, a convoluted form, usually with comma-delimited clauses, which rarely ends up where it should in my hands. Yet I do know how to write simply and clearly. I defiantly believe the semicolon deserves wider usage and respect but this is a private and personal view of applied punctuation; I do not arrogantly impose this abhorrent aberration upon Wikipedia mainspace articles in the manner of some fishy minion of Cthulhu. (Watch out or I'll alliterate in your general direction.)

Complaints, compliments, and comments about my actions/behaviour on Wikipedia are always welcome on my talk page and received by me with great interest and attention. Such feedback is an excellent chance for me to improve my judgment and behaviour, as an admin and as an editor.

Please don't bother trying to insult me or call me names; I read Maledicta occasionally and have great respect for the skilled craft of creative cursing (even if I'm generally too polite to practice it.) Unless you excel at such verbal aggression, I'll undoubtedly view your efforts with sad pity and scorn. Using "poophead" and its more graphic fricative Anglo-Saxon brethren only serves as a reminder of the tragic decline of this deft art form. And, really, do you think someone with a user name like Pigman is going to be overly sensitive to insult or ripe for umbrage? I attempt to meet all interactions here with grace and courtesy. My goal remains: to be a reliable, steadfast, and jolly good swine to all Wikipedians. Oh, and to improve the encyclopedia whenever I can stop poking and tweaking my user page.

[edit] Vandalfighting tip 'o the day

Vandal fighting is fun but it's often difficult to beat the real hotshot vandalfighters to the revert and warning punch. By the time I look, the problem is already corrected 90% of the time. My current method for finding vandalism is to use User:Lupin/Live spellcheck. With a little practice, I've learned to recognize subtler forms of vandalism. At the very least, there are spelling problems for correction but often it includes a vandal's text because, well, vandals don't always take time to proof their edits. Why should they? They don't care about Wikipedia as an encyclopedia. So give this method a try.
