Except the well-known 1866 patent, it is not possible to be affirmative on the point : who was the first one to add cranks and pedals on the front wheel of a hobby-horse ? unless providing documents or quoting reliable authors.

Let's considere that Michaux et Cie, the firm of the Michaux family, start industrial production of velocipedes à pédale in 1865, and that Pierre Lallement worked with them before going to the US. The pattern of these machines was almost identical with Lallement's one. Velib (talk) 18:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
