[edit] Disgust and disgruntlement

I've worked here before and I thought it was horrible. I never want to work here again. This place operates in Mexico too?

I agree--this company is corrupt and backwards and could care less about it's employees. Katherinejohnson 09:21, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

What gets me is its approach to daintiness. It really caters to a lot of women. I got a few quotes from the company website:

"We ushered in the new century with the launch of our online store at pier1.com and a new advertising campaign. The “Get In Touch With Your Senses” campaign positioned Pier 1 as a fun, sensory shopping experience that customers had long identified with the eclectic specialty store. We signed Kirstie Alley as our spokesperson for the campaign, marking the first time that we had employed a celebrity spokesperson."

If the majority of Pier 1's shoppers are women, what's the deal with the whole "Get In Touch With Your Senses" bit?

Next:

“Our first customers were post-World War II baby boomers looking for beanbag chairs, love beads and incense.”

This just disguts me to no end and I'm glad I'm not working at Pier 1 anymore.

Well, I'm not sure why a company having a target demographic would disgust anyone. I work for Pier1 and I haven't had a lot of the problems I've faced in other corporate retail jobs. A lot of corporations get bad reputations from groups of stores that dont run by corporate standard. Every company has it's problems, and most advertising campaigns today are ludicrous, so Im not suprised that Pier1's comes off as silly to people. I like the diversity of the merchandise, but I think the buyers need to be equally focused on quality when purchasing non-furniture items. It's nice to have a chain store where I can buy furniture that isnt some form of particle board.

[edit] Advertisement

Since the user who tagged this page with the cleanup tag gave no explanation as to which phrases exactly made the page like an advertisement, I'm removing the tag. If someone can shed light on exactly where the NPOV policy is violated then please do; enlighten me.

The company regularly rotates their fragrance (candle, incense and room spray) collections and has several distinct flavors such as tuscan herb, rose and "blendables" - more than one complementary flavor together.
This did sound like an advertisement to me, so I removed it. -- Beland 17:17, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Admin's Comments

An Administrator just posted on my talk page about the comment I made above--asking for proof or something. My proof is the awful memories I have of that place. Damn Pier 1 Imports to hell and all of its management. Katherine 07:16, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History

Hi. I wrote a history section. Hope it's copacetic. I also started a Marvin Girouard page just to get rid of that red link. Jonathan Stokes 22:39, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
