From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pieter Gillis (1486 – 1533), also known by his latinised name "Petrus Aegidius", was a humanist, printer and secretary for the city of Antwerp in the early sixteenth century. He is most famous as the friend and supporter of Rodolphus Agricola, Desiderius Erasmus and Thomas More. The first part of the Utopia was in fact written when More was staying with Gillis, and subsequently dedicated to him.
