Pierrefort is a French commune, situated on a southern slope in the department of Cantal in the region of Auvergne. It is approximately 130 km from Clermont Ferrand and 30 km from Saint-Flour

Pierrefort is situated between 600 m and 1400 m of altitude, in the meridional part of the department. The commune belongs to the Carladèz area.

Pierrefort has cold winters characterised by heavy snowfall whilst summer temperatures often reach 30°C. Recently the period between May and August has been very dry.
