Pierre Viaud

Pierre Viaud wrote a book titled Shipwreck and Adventures of Monsieur Pierre Viaud. First published in French in 1768 and in English in 1771. The book was reprinted several times in both languages and was an 18th century international bestseller. [1]
On February 16, 1766, Le Tigre, a French merchant brigantine, was on route to New Orleans and wrecked 300 yards east of Dog Island in a great storm. Pierre Viaud was a passenger on this ship. Viaud's book tells his story and went on to become an international bestseller
