The filtration method behind an absorption-re-emission Atomic line filter
The filtration method behind an absorption-re-emission Atomic line filter

I created this image in Inkscape, and I think it does a lot to illustrate Atomic line filter.

  • This confuses me, why is the target frequency selectively shifted in frequency? Like this the diagram is physically inaccurate, if I'm not totally off here.--Dschwen 22:01, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Um, I guess you need to read Atomic line filter. But that's the entire point of the diagram... -- Rmrfstar 22:28, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
  • A couple changes that I'd suggest are: 1. Move the labels a bit (put "low-pass filter" directly above the filter, and "high-pass filter" directly below that filter, rather than needing the long arrow (the labeling arrows can cause confusion with the arrows representing light frequencies); maybe move "Vapor cell" to the top or bottom). 2. Use a more systematic color scheme for the lines - right now there are various high & low frequency lines that appear red; even if the frequencies aren't meant to be the full visible color spectrum, a ROYGBIV sequence of colors would better express the idea that they're increasing frequencies; the line for the target signal should probably change color as it's shifted, to clarify what's happening. Regarding possible FPC, I'm not sure - the diagram is very simple, which is good for its use in an article, but might lead to people voting against it because it's not extremely "eye catching". --Davepape 02:55, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
