The Emperor Gum Moth (Opodiphthera eucalypti) is a species of moth native to Australia and is one of the larger moths, with a wingspan of 120mm – 150mm. Emperor Gum Moths do not feed after they emerge from the cocoon, relying solely on the energy they stored as caterpillars. Their adult life span is limited to a couple of short weeks in which they mate, lay eggs and die. Photo credit: Fir0002 |
