Salvage ethnography is a branch ethnography and anthropology concerned with the practice of capturing a record of what was left of a culture before it disappeared. A pioneer of salvage ethnography was Edward Curtis, with his early 20th century photographs of American Indian traditional life, such as this Hupa fisherman. Photo credit: Edward Curtis |
