[edit] Licensing
This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program or station ID. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia:Non-free content. |
[edit] Fair use rationale for Steptoe and Son
This image is being linked here; though the picture may be subject to copyright I (User:Sue Wallace) believe it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because it is used as follows:
- Article = Steptoe and Son
- Use = Infobox
- Description = Low resolution still of a well-known and notable BBC 1970's genre television comedy series Steptoe and Son.
- Source = http://www.rocktech-associates.co.uk/clients/PicSteptoeAndSon.jpg Derived from a screenshot (creator of this image is irrelevant as the copyright in all equivalent images is still held by the same party). Copyright held by the BBC (The British Broadcasting Corporation). Claimed as fair use regardless.
- Portion = Entire b/w screenshot which includes the two main characters.
- Resolution = Yes. The image is only as much resolution as necessary to identify the characters mentioned in the article Steptoe and Son, not enough to be used for piracy, neither does it's inclusion limit the copyright owners rights to sell the television show in any way.
- Purpose = Infobox. For the article of the same name Steptoe and Son. It illustrates the two characters of this classic 1970's BBC television comedy sitcom and identifies it visually for historical (as in Television)and critical analysis, thus it is used to increase the readers understanding of the subject which is being discussed.
- Replaceability = No free equivalent can equal this image (and any would be a derivative thereof).
- other_information = Images (all of which are also owned by the BBC) are already widely distributed to identify the show as part of DVD catalogs and television programme reviews, so degrade no market value by providing a low resolution image.
