Talk:Piano Concerto No. 2 (Tchaikovsky)

[edit] Problem with one of the sources
The link "Information about the Concerto" was bad because that site has recently reorganised itself. On 14 July, I made it point to the correct page [1].
Unfortunately, that source is still a bit of a problem, since it makes a mess of the date of the premiere.
In the dot points, it says:
- "First performed in New York, 31 October/12 November 1881, by Madeline Schiller, conducted by Theodore Thomas".
- This is correct, as was recently confirmed over at Talk:Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky#Second Piano Concerto - Premiere performance. (Being in the USA, I can't see the relevance of adding the Julian date 31 October; but it's not incorrect.)
Down in the "History" section, it says:
- "The first performance only took place on 18 May 1882 in Moscow [18], in the concert hall of the Arts and Industrial Exhibition. The soloist was S. I. Taneev, and the orchestra was conducted by A. G. Rubinstein."
- This is incorrect; this performance was the first Russian performance, not the world premiere.
However, footnote [18] says:
- "In fact, the premiere of the concerto took place in New York on 31 October/12 November 1881, by Madeline Schiller, conducted by Theodore Thomas".
- ... which corrects the above statement to agree with the first one.
So, they get there in the end, but this is a somewhat odd way to present information, I must say, and is likely to lead to further confusion unless the second statement is corrected (which would obviate the need for the footnote). -- JackofOz 06:12, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
