- Yes, there have been recordings since before 1940. Recordings regarded as perhaps notable (among performances from decades ago I expect there are several (Ingrid Haebler/Eduard Melkus, perhaps one of Wilhelm Kempff's and/or Walter Gieseking's (with Hans Rosbaud)? There's a recording with composer-pianist Carl Reinecke and Bruno Walter conducting the Vienna Philharmonic on the label (not the tempo :) ) Andante, I don't know how it's regarded.) Among somewhat more recent pianists who I believe recorded the concerto - I would assume well, but I haven't heard these recordings, I think- indeed, I'm not familiar with that many classic recordings of some repertoire - Claudio Arrau, Daniel Barenboim, and Alfred Brendel come to mind.
