Piast Gliwice, pron. IPA: [ˈpʲast gliˈvitsɛ], is a Polish football club based in Gliwice, Poland. Founded in June of 1945 by the Poles who had been forced to leave their homeland in present Western Ukraine, Piast's soccer team played for as many as 32 seasons in the Polish Second Division, however, it has never managed to qualify to the Ekstraklasa. Twice (1978, 1983, Piast managed to reach finals of the Cup of Poland. Club's name comes from the Piast dynasty, that ruled Poland from its beginnings as an independent state in the 10th century, until 1370.
