[edit] Usage
To add an article to the list, simply add the template to the talk page of the article with the following parameters:
{{Physics |class=XXX |importance=YYY |needs-infobox= |attention= }}
- class: Options are FA, A, GA, B, Start, Stub, Cat, NA. If blank, this will default as Unassessed. Descriptions of the options can be found at Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment. NA is "not applicable".
- importance: Options are Top, High, Mid, Low, NA. If blank, this will default as Unknown priority. NA is "not applicable". This is the importance within physics according to this scale.
- attention: Answer yes if the page needs immediate attention, otherwise remove this line.
- needs-infobox: Answer yes if the article needs an infobox, otherwise remove this line.
- auto: This parameter is for the use of bots. It calls the {{stubclass}} template.
[edit] How to
[edit] Tag a page
Just add {{physics|class=|importance=}} to an article
[edit] Rate an article with a class
[edit] ... that's already tagged with {{physics}}
Edit the talk page, change the class= parameter to the appropriate rating, or add |class= if not already present, and save the page.
See above for available ratings. Please leave comments about how to improve the article on the /Comments page linked to in the template once you've rated the article.
[edit] ... that isn't
Edit the talk page, add {{physics|class=|importance=}}, and change the class parameter as appropriate before saving the page.
See above for available ratings. Please leave comments about how to improve the article on the /Comments page linked to in the template once you've rated the article.
[edit] Leave comments to explain the rating
If comments haven't already been left, then click on the red /Comments list and leave your comments on that page. If they have already been left, then un-hide the comments using the "Show" link on the right of the template, then click on the "edit" link.
Please note that if you put headers on the comments page (i.e. == Text ==, then the table of contents will get moved into the comments box also. You can avoid this by putting __TOC__ just below the physics template call on the article's talk page.
[edit] Rate an article with an importance

[edit] ... that isn't
Edit the talk page, add {{physics|class=|importance=}}, and change the importance parameter as appropriate, and save the page.
See above for available ratings.
[edit] Agree that the stub rating is appropriate where the page was auto-tagged
Remove the |auto=yes parameter from within {{physics}}, such that the rating reads {{physics|class=stub|importance=}} . Please also update the importance tag if appopriate.

[edit] Discussion
[edit] Template cleanup
Centrx (talk · contribs) just made some modifications to this template, which I have reverted because they broke some of the functionality - see [1] for an example of what's broken. I haven't got the time to do much on the template right now, but when I have I'll try to incorporate some of Centrx's changes into the current version of the template in a non-broken way. I know that there are problems with this template causing excess whitespace - I will admit that I'm fairly new to complex templates, so if anyone can spot what's causing this whitespace please could you fix it (as long as you don't break the template at the same time...) Thanks. Mike Peel 07:51, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, aside from the whitespace issue, the template needs to be shorter (tighter) because it is used atop talk pages that are already really crowded. See Template:Chemistry for an example. It may not seem like a big deal, but I have been doing this for most all talk page headers and it really does save a lot of space in sum, and it also looks much nicer. The changes I was making here now were just trying to fix the whitespace issue, which remains a mystery. —Centrx→talk • 07:59, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
The template's been following the style of Template:WPBiography thus far. I'll do my best to shrink it when I get the time. Mike Peel 08:06, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- That template has the same problem, but it is even harder to fix because the template is very complicated—which would be another reason not to follow it. —Centrx→talk • 16:49, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
I've now put together an updated version, which takes up a little less space. See User:Mike_Peel/template for an example of how it looks on normal pages - the talk page shows an in-use example. User:Mike_Peel/test shows the template in use in a few more configurations. Note that the longest version is on the talk page of the test page, but most of that should only be temporary content anyway. The whitespace problems should also be fixed. Are there any other modifications that you would suggest, or am I OK to make the updated version live? Mike Peel 21:31, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- This isn't a high-use template (that is, high enough that it frequent changes would be a burden on the server) so you can just make changes right on the template. I think it looks great. —Centrx→talk • 22:06, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- I used to do that, but I found that I tended to break the template a lot while making modifications. Hence the alternative location, to keep from breaking a few hundred talk pages. I'll move it over to this page shortly. Mike Peel 06:27, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Way to big
This template is way to big, someone should design a new one that is more compact. --Sadi Carnot 11:15, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- it's not as big as {{PeruProjectBanner}} --Andersmusician $ 20:34, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
