Talk:Physical medicine and rehabilitation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have removed the 'Rehabilitation of non-human animals' section as it does not relate directly to the field of physiatry, nor does it logically flow in the section 'Scope of the field'. Vernon 09:08, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
I have also removed the 'Income' section as I cannot find another medicine specialty article that includes this information. Vernon 09:08, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
I think that we should add a section detailing the founding and development of PASSOR (Physiatric Association of Sports Spine and Occupational Rehabilitation) since this group had a major emphasis in the field.--Oskie94 05:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Page Seems Incorrectly Focused
This page seems off to me. It is hard to describe exactly how but let me relate my experience. I or my family members have been seeing physiatrists on-and-off for 15 years. We have seen 3 physiatrists in that time.
An acquaintance of mine has recently been injured and is afraid that they are going straight to the orthopedic surgeon. So I suggested a physiatrist and the response was "A hoos-a-whats-ist?". I explained what a physiatrist was and went to email my acquaintance a link to this article but felt that, while the article might not be incorrect, it would convince her that she should not see the physiatrist because it seems to focus so on long-term problems: Emphasis is placed on the optimization of function through the combined use of medications, physical modalities, and experiential training approaches.. I instead decided to forward my acquaintance to [[1]] which seems to do a much better job of presenting the field.
I'm not a doctor and don't feel qualified to update the page, but I think it is needed.
