Physicist is the third solo album by Canadian metal musician Devin Townsend, released on June 26, 2000 by his own Hevy Devy label and by InsideOut Music (see 2000 in music).

It is distinguished from the rest of Townsend's solo portfolio for the crossing of the style of his work in Strapping Young Lad with elements that had been explored in Ocean Machine: Biomech and Infinity.

[edit] Miscellanea

  • "Namaste" is a Sanskrit spiritual word, translating to "I bow to the light in you." The song itself uses the word to indicate a goal to reach, wherein the human race would be able to communicate without sound. [1]
  • "Forgotten" is a demo of the song "Bad Devil," which appeared previously in its final form on Townsend's record Infinity. [2]
  • Because the record's style is so similar to that of Townsend's other band, Strapping Young Lad, many listeners may be coaxed into thinking that was the album's original intention. However, Townsend's wife Tracy discounted this in a post on the official [3] website on December 2, 2005, saying that Physicist was intended as a solo project from the beginning. [4] The material was originally culled from a project Townsend had started with former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted.
