Physalaemus cuqui is a species of frog in the Leptodactylidae family. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, and possibly Paraguay. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, intermittent freshwater marshes, arable land, pastureland, ponds, irrigated land, and canals and ditches.

Being familiar with the species, I suggest that an appropriate English Name would be 'Wailing Frog'. The Spanish vernacular name used by local people where it occurs, is 'Rana Llorona'. The wailing of a chorus of this species is nearly deafening. Niels Krabbe
