Phyllostachys aureosulcata McClure |
Also known as "Yellow Groove", Phyllostachys aureosulcata is a running bamboo. The Yellow Groove name comes from the distinctive yellow coloring in the internode groove (sulcus). This species can also have abrupt kinks at the base of the culms. Maximum height can reach 35+' with a diameter of 2". One of the hardiest bamboos in the genus Phyllostachys, it is cold hardy to around -10F and grows well in USDA zone 5-10. It has many cultivars with different culm and groove colors (e.g. 'Spectabilis', 'Aureocaulis', 'Alata', 'Harbin', 'Harbin Inversa').
