[edit] Synopsis

Phyllis has asked Michael to push her father's wheelchair down the aisle at her wedding, a role that she gave him to secure six weeks off for her honeymoon. Pam is upset that many details of Phyllis's wedding, from the invitations to the wedding gown, were copied from her cancelled wedding.

During the procession, Michael becomes petulant when Phyllis' father "upstages" him by walking under his own power. Goaded by Jim, Dwight hunts down wedding crashers. He ousts Phyllis' Uncle Al, who fails to pass Dwight's questioning due to dementia.

Michael makes several attempts to recapture the limelight, including an embarrassing toast at the wedding banquet, which gets him kicked out of the reception hall by Phyllis's husband Bob Vance. Dwight doesn't let him re-enter, and Michael must sit outside listening to Uncle Al's ramblings.

Roy pays the band (the Kevin-led "Scrantonicity") $20 to play his and Pam's song. The two dance and leave together to Jim's obvious dismay.

When Phyllis leaves the reception hall with Bob Vance, she thanks Michael for finding her Uncle Al, and the newlyweds ride off in a Vance Refrigeration van.

[edit] Deleted scenes

The Season Three DVD contains a number of deleted scenes. Notable cut scenes include:

  • Extensions of the "pungent" scene and Michael's wedding speech.
  • In a talking head interview, Kevin discusses the women that he has proposed to.
  • Phyllis seats Angela next to Dennis, a religious man. The two get along well, but when Dennis asks Angela for her telephone number, Angela tells him she's already having intimate relations with someone. Dennis apologizes, saying "Phyllis neglected to mention your promiscuity."
  • When Pam points out to Phyllis that she stole all her wedding ideas from Pam, Phyllis apologetically offers to make an announcement. Pam realizes she is being petty.
  • Michael takes Bob Vance's seat at the wedding table.
  • Karen is addicted to her Blackberry.

[edit] Notes

For a list of songs featured in this episode, see List of songs featured on The Office.
  • Promotional "wedding photos" released by NBC before the episode aired continue the joke in which Michael attempts to insert himself into every wedding picture.[2]
  • This episode marks the fourth time an expletive has been censored.
  • Michael Scott wears a suit very much like Pee Wee Herman's to his mother's wedding.
  • While training Dwight to want an Altoid when he hears a computer sound, Jim refers to Ivan Pavlov's Classical Conditioning theory.
  • The name of Kevin's Police cover band "Scrantonicity" is a portmanteau of Scranton, Pennsylvania and the 1983 Police album Synchronicity.
  • Stanley and his wife bring a toaster as a wedding gift. This may be the toaster that they originally bought for Pam and Roy's wedding ("Gay Witch Hunt").
  • In the NBC promo for this episode, Jim tells Pam to "give the people what they want". In the episode, Jim is referring to "those famous Beesly dance moves", but taken out of context the remarks may refer to Jim and Pam's ongoing semi-relationship.
  • Kelly mentions to Pam if she were her she would "get drunk and tell someone I was pregnant." Something Kelly eventually does (without being drunk) in Season 4, "Dunder Mifflin Infinity".
  • The wedding was filmed in a church in Studio City, California, about two blocks north of CBS studios.
  • When Phyllis throws the wedding bouquet, Ryan is seen swatting the bouquet away from Kelly's grasp.
  • During the ceremony, the priest asks Bob, "And do you, Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration, take Phyllis to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
  • In Michael's "toast" to Phyllis and Bob, he opens up by reading the definition of wedding but mistakenly got the definition for welding ("the fusion of two metals with a hot torch").
  • When Michael is kicked out of the wedding, he screams "I HATE YOU," which is similar to what happened to him when he wet his pants at his mother's wedding.
