Phrynopus (type species P. peruanus Peters, 1873) is a polyphyletic [1] genus of leptodactylid frogs. Until recently the frog Phrynopus pereger Lynch, 1975 was placed in this genus but a recent revision [1] moved it to the genus Eleutherodactylus.
