The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page

I posted the Cabal case before I realize you'd closed it. I think that closing it was the right thing to do. Frankly, I believe that Mpublius is simply forum shopping. He didn't get the result he wanted with the RfC that he filed, so he picked another dispute resolution. Consensus on the talk page is pretty clear, particularly Famspear's arguments which, while verbose, are very well reasoned. Anyway, thanks for taking the case. I appreciate your time. I'm not really sure what you're looking for here. Do you want a normal assessment parameter and a checklist? Or an assessment automatically generated by the checklist? If you could come up with an example of (a) what you would put on a talk page together with (b) what the resulting template would say, it would be very helpful.
(There is no standard "C-Class", incidentally; I'd suggest using the normal "Start-Class" if you want to be compatible with the assessment-tracking bots.) Kirill 01:34, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

If I may make a suggestion to you regarding membership at the History Project: Perhaps it would be a good idea to note on the mebership page that those members whose names are listed on subprojects of the history project are considered members of the history project, while asking other history subprojects to note that members listed in those projects are automatically considered part of the history project. In this manner you may be able to cut down on the membership list by allowing Users whose interested are not already represented to sign up on the parent project page. Just a thought. - I don't think that the task force system you created is likely to work. My approach is to mothball them all and to create task forces if there is interest in a topic. - What comes to my mind, is that we do have bulky task forces without participants and no infrastructure where we can list common guidelines and templates and we can hardly integrate them as task forces because of the existing ones, so beforehand we should restructure the whole project. I note that you requested Kirill to place all the Military history articles in the History project statistics. He just told me as much. If you honestly believe that they should all be included in the History project's stats, well and good. Personally, though, I think the project would be best served if we only listed those articles the project itself actively deals with. That would allow for greater focused attention on them. I think MILHIST does a good enough job dealing with the articles it already deals with. John Carter 18:41, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- The articles are already tagged for 1.0 by Military history. I really can't see how it benefits the history project itself to have articles appear in its statistics page which are not directly related to the actions of the project. I can't see how we would really be likely to improve the military history articles in ways that Military history already can't. The fact that the History Project banner isn't there basically means were taking some degree of responsibility for content which we can't use as advertising for ourselves as well. I honestly think that, considering we have more or less decided we'll let the MILHIST project work on their articles without our input/interference, that it doesn't make much sense for us to have them show up in the stats box at this time, as it basically makes it harder for the membership to focus on those articles which the extant history project has indicated in its scope that it will deal with. Later, if the scope of either project changes, banners can be adjusted again. That's been done rather a lot.
