It was very hard to confirm the 'Aestrelata parvirostris of a late 19th century source as this species. Google will yield few hits, perhaps because most authors wrote the "Ae"/"Oe" at that time with a ligature. But still, I get the impression that there is something amiss with these names... they may be misapplied or indeterminable and thus not be junior synonyms in the strict sense, or people might have thought that Gmelin's Procellaria alba referred to a different bird and re-described the species as parvirostris. HBW is silent on the matter, as the problem was apparently settled in the early 20th century (I find no reference to "Pterodroma parvirostris" except a brief mention here, which suggests that the specific name parvirostris was only used to any extent before the petrel genera were reorganized and Aestrelata etc were done away with. The Peters Checklist vol.1 should have the information needed here. Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 20:21, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well at least I found the mallophage paper in my collection and it gives the authority for parvirostris - Titian Peale (who had a habit of mucking up Procellariiformes taxonomy. Innocently, but to the modern researcher it's still annoying) Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 20:26, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
