Talk:Phoenix Coyotes

[edit] Inaccuracy regarding Selanne
The article currently states that Selanne was one of the Jets to leave the franchise during the summer the team moved to Phoenix. This is inaccurate, as the Jets had traded Selanne to Anaheim during the 1996 season for, among other players, D Oleg Tverdovsky. Though I cannot find a source to back this, Winnipeg rumour has long held that the management made this move to free up funds to keep American-born Keith Tkachuk and sign American-born free agent Jeremy Roenick, thus making the team more "palatable" to a predominantly American market.
Thomas Steen would perhaps be the best example of a Jet who did not make the move to Phoenix, inasmuch as his whole career was in Winnipeg, and he was much-beloved by the home fans.
- Feb 7, 1996: Winnipeg Jets traded Teemu Selanne, Marc Chouinard and 4th round selection (later traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, later traded to the Montreal Canadiens - Kim Staal) in 1996 to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for Chad Kilger, Oleg Tverdovsky and 3rd round selection (Per-Anton Lundstrom) in 1996. http://tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=1035&hubname=nhl-ducks ccwaters 17:35, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Leaving on a Jet plane
This article on the Coyotes reads almost the same as the article on the Jets. The vast majority of the writing in the article is about the Jets. We need to shorten the info on the Jets and focus this article more on the Coyotes. Masterhatch 15 August 2005
- Personally, I'd make two seperate articles, but that doesn't look like the status quo in the NHL articles... ccwaters 14:51, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Currently there are two separate articles. What looks like happened was someone made a Winnipeg Jets article and just copy pasted the Coyotes page to it. Some teams (such as Calgary Flames/Atlanta Flames) are on the same page, but other teams such as Dallas Stars/Minnesota North Stars/Oakland Seals and New Jersey Devils/Kansas City Scouts/Colorado Rockies (NHL) have separate pages. If i was more ambitious, i would split the Flames up. But i have too many other projects on the go right now. What I am suggesting for this article is to shorten the Jets history on this page and talk more about the Coyotes. If someone has the time or energy, that would be a nifty little project. Masterhatch 15 August 2005
- Well, the Dallas Stars article has exactly 2 sentences about the Dallas Stars. Carolina Hurricanes is roughly 50% Whalers even though there is a perfectly acceptable Hartford Whalers article. Atlanta Flames do need their own article. The New Jersey Devils is actually mostly Devils, though. ccwaters 17:05, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right. There are a lot of pages that need a lot of work. Masterhatch 15 August 2005

- It does read like it was written by a disgruntled Jets fan, doesn't it? Are there any Coyotes fans in the house? Or anyone who can accurately summarize the last ten years in a few paragraphs? (This season alone deserves something to itself, given how swimmingly everything has gone.) I think the Colorado Avalanche page does a good job of separating Quebec from Colorado, even if it is horrendously partisan in tone. Doogie2K 18:55, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, a little better, though now, it needs some real Coyotes history (that middle paragraph is more of a placeholder). Any Coyotes fans in the house, or people with access to a media guide or something? Unless, of course, their website has everything we need... Doogie2K 19:24, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of Phoenix Coyotes players
I have just completed the List of Phoenix Coyotes players. It is 100% complete as of the end of the 2003-04 NHL season. It would be a great help to keep it complete if when a new player starts playing for the Coyotes, he could be added to the list! Thanks! Masterhatch 15 August 2005

- Or is naturalized. RGTraynor 13:42, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] No need to mention it, twice
Gretzky's name is already in the Team Box, pointing out he's minority-owner & coach. The article doesn't have to mention his name at the top. The other NHL clubs ,don't mention their coach at the top of their articles. PS- I'm not Anti-Gretzky GoodDay 22:05, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Inaccuracy regarding America West Arena
The discussion regarding America West Arena and it's attendance is way out of place. The arena was always at 16,210 capacity for Ice Hockey. They didn't reduce the capacity after the Coyotes moved in and played a few games. It was always obstructed view for hockey.
[edit] Nolan
Should Nolan be listed as both a Brit and a Canadian, with two flags? 67.188.172.165 00:13, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- No. RGTraynor 02:56, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Retired Numbers
An anon-user, had added Hawerchuk's #10 (due to the Coyotes honouring Hawerchuk, a few days ago). I've removed the entry, as I don't recall the Coyotes retiring the number. Am I correct?GoodDay 17:48, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- It wasn't announced, if they had. RGTraynor 20:31, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Until we know for sure, we should put an Asterik or something on it. or say "Citation Needed"--Dr. Pizza (talk) 03:14, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Rick Tocchet
Is the whole Rick Tocchet gambling ring(another article here) not worth mentioning? For people who didn't know (since I had no idea before reading about it, not sure why it took me so long to find out) he was/is (didn't get fired, on leave of absence) the assistant coach of the Coyotes. I do think it's funny how the New Jersey authorities call it "Operation Slapshot" though. BsroiaadnTalk 05:23, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
I think it is worth mentioning. It was a big deal for a while. Love each other, or perish. ~Auden 04:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Uniform Section, and Mascot
Article needs a Jersey section, complete with photos and info. Also, the team mascot needs to be mentioned. Love each other, or perish. ~Auden 04:47, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:2006NHLAllStarGame.png
Image:2006NHLAllStarGame.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Uniform Oddity
Is it me, or is there no alternate logo on the left shoulder of both the home and away jerseys?
