[edit] Plot
The song begins by the singer creating a scene in a person's head about their parents going out for the evening. He then says that they decide 'it might be fun to harass someone' by dialing a random number on the telephone. The singer then says that, if they had been found out, the victim would have 'bashed [their] head right in with a wrachet.' He then tells about a boy named Melvin who had a 'natural obsession in asking for Prince Albert in a can', and also calling people in the early morning (three o'clock as said in the song) for 'pizza pie delivery info'. Then singer then states that he 'won't be laughing when their tracing his line' and the 'phone police will be there at his door'.
[edit] Notes
- At about 2:20, a clip from the Simpson's episode Blood Feud plays a prank call to Moe's Tavern.
(Phone rings.)(Moe)Uh, Moe's Tavern, where the elite meet to to drink. (Bart)Yeah, hello, is Mike there? Last name: Rotch. Hold on, I'll check. Mike Rotch! Mike Rotch! Hey, has anybody seen Mike Rotch lately? (Costumers laughing.) Listen to me, you little puke. One of these days I'm going to catch you, and I'm going to carve my name on your back with an ice pick! (Bart laughs.)[1]
- Near the end of the fade out, Al can be heard singing ’bet you think it’s funny when you’re driving folks right up the wall, but you’re just one pain in’ before it fades out completely.
