Phoenix Games
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Phoenix Games Group is a European video game publisher and developer, specializing in budget-priced games. Phoenix also serves as a third-party publisher in Europe for games developed by non-European companies. The Phoenix Games home office is located in the United Kingdom, and their development office is located in the Netherlands. As of February 2008, Phoenix has published games for the PC, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable, and has announced plans on its website to publish games for the Nintendo DS[1] and Wii.[2]
Phoenix targets a broad European audience with its games, and has published games in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. Most games published by Phoenix fall into genres that typically sell well to a mainstream, casual audience, such as sports, racing, and simulation. Many Phoenix games feature animation, jigsaw puzzles, and similar content. Most of these Phoenix-developed children's games use traditional cel animation, even in cases where the box art features polygonal 3D figures.
Many of the games published by Phoenix are based on stories, myths, or characters that have fallen into the public domain, such as Peter Pan and King Arthur. A number of the children's games developed by Phoenix have names that may be intended to evoke the names of animated films from The Walt Disney Company, such as The Lion King (Phoenix's Son of the Lion King and Lion and the King 3), Mulan (Phoenix's Mighty Mulan), and One Hundred and One Dalmatians (Phoenix's Dalmatians 3, prominently featuring a Cruella de Vil-like figure on the box art).[3]
