[edit] Republic vs democracy
You asked a question on the Talk:Republic page. Modern republics are synonymous with democracy. There is really no difference between the two. Classical republics on the other hand are very different. Here is a link that gives a short insight into the difference: http://www.internet-encyclopedia.org/index.php/Classical_republics_and_democracy_contrasted. Democracy is rule of the poor. The Poor, a caste, is the dominant caste. A Classical republic on the other hand is mixed government.WHEELER 00:47, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. I was guessing that the two were synonymous. Now I have actually found this page useful. Thanks again!--Philip Auguste 04:08, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Adoption
How does adoption work? Im a little new with wiki...stuff.
Philippe Auguste 19:54, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, how are you? Welcome :)
- With adoption, basically the 'adopter' would just help you with editing and things, and really help you learn the ropes on Wikipedia. You can ask questions, and work on things you're interested in... Really, it depends on what you want to do, and your adopter would help you with that.
- Are you interested in adoption? I'd be happy to help you out, or if you need anything, please feel free to ask. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 07:43, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, Iam interested in adoption, CattleGirl. But how do you start it? Thanks for your speedy reply. :)Philippe Auguste 19:20, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello! You're welcome- as for starting adoption- that's good, right there! :) I'll add the adoption templates to both our user pages, and then just feel free to ask any questions you may have, or help when you need it. Cheers- CattleGirl talk 03:53, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Questions From Phil
CattleGirl, how do you upload pictures. Like say I had a real good one from Google Images and I waanted to make it available for wikipedia and, ahem, my gallery? what would I do? Also how can I get WikiAdvertisments? .P.S. Thanks for adpoting me! I can really use the help. :) Philippe Auguste 18:43, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hello again :)
- Uploading pictures is pretty easy once you know how. Really, everything in a nutshell is at Wikipedia:Images. If you've found a good photo on google images, that's great, but before you upload it make sure it has the correct licensing for Wikipedia, otherwise it would be deleted- see here, and there's some links in there that explain it more thoroughly that you may want to have a look at.
- As for uploading images...
- Wikipedia:Uploading images explains it in detail. Basically once you're sure that the image you have has the correct licensing for the project, you're free to upload the file at Special:Upload.
- Sorry for asking, but what are WikiAdvertisments? I've looked, and I can't seem to find them.
- Goes to show, you find out something everyday- I'll go ask at the Help Desk. I hope that helped you- Cheers- CattleGirl talk 01:23, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- P.S.- the reply from the Help Desk was Template:Wikipedia ads. Is that what you meant?
- Sorry for the brief reply, I have to go. God bless- CattleGirl talk 01:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

NEEEEWWW QUESTION!! I'd like to be part of counter vandalism now but I dunno how? Also I am a WIKInew-comer welcomer now(Sp?), just if you cared to know.Philippe Auguste 04:23, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
And anywho, say someone vandalizes my page by redirecting every thing or erases a bunch of stuff thats hard to get? I know the 3 step process like revert to last time page was in good condition.Philippe Auguste 20:03, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
OK RMS Titanic got COMPLETLY deleted. Now its my one of favorite articles and I think the who did it was User:Wildhartlivie. Please check RMS Titanic's history to make sure I did the right thing. Don't worry I was careful with my words that I wrote there. Thanks.Philippe Auguste 05:12, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry it's been a few days since I was last online :S. You seem to have been doing very well!
- As for joining the counter vandalism unit- there's some userboxes at the bottom of the page which add you to the category of members in the unit- or if you'd prefer no userboxes, the category is also there for you to add to your userpage.
- And that's really cool that you're welcoming new users- a huge tick in my book :) That's really good, well done.
- If someone vandalises your page like that, then you should be able to revert it, either by moving it back, or going through the history and saving the page before the person put the redirect in. Just make sure that the edit wasn't legitamate first.
- I had a look at RMS Titanic, it's there- it seems that there's problems with blanking, from looking at the page history, in the edit summaries. I'm not quite sure what's happening there.
- Hey, just a tip- when you edit, it's a good idea to fill in an edit summary, so users can quickly see what you're doing by just glancing at the page history. It's a bit more comprehensive than the automatic summaries. If you want, in your preferences page- on the top right- when you click on the editing tab, there's a box you can check which says "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary'- that way you'll have 100% accuracy, and users can see this when running checks like [1] and [2]. Just a tip- CattleGirl talk 11:22, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Napoleonic French soldiers
First, I am glad to have found another member interested in Napoleonic French soldiers. I am not sure if a separate article, Napoleonic French soldiers, is needed we have La Grande Armée. Second, if you want to start filling in your article I recommend getting the book, Swords Around a Throne: Napoleon’s Grande Armée by John R. Elting. It is everything you want to know about the Grande Armée. Third, you might want to join the Napoleonic era task force. Regards, --Bryson 16:08, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
