Philip Forbes-Bell was born in Cornwall in 1979 but has lived for most of his life in Yorkshire. In 2002 he attained a 2:1 Honours degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham where he learned to fly with the Royal Air Force. He excelled both academically and with the Royal Air Force where he was appointed the senior student for East Midlands Universities Air Squadron.

Upon graduation from university, Philip Forbes-Bell spent some time travelling South East Asia before attending the Royal Air Force College Cranwell where he graduated as a Flying Officer six months later. Selected for fast jet flying training, Forbes-Bell went on to complete 100 hours of pilot training on the Tucano.

After the Royal Air Force, Forbes-Bell decided to pursue a career in business and in May 2006 he joined Bayford & Co Ltd in Yorkshire, a Times Top 100 employer where he has had responsibilities for commercial project and business management. In early 2007, he launched heatingoil.co.uk, a new revolutionary website for ordering home heating oil which is proving to be a success for both Bayford and its new customers.
